Visiting Dubai in summer

Dubai has long been a popular destination for travellers from all over the world, and rightly so. The city offers an oasis of sandy beaches, towering skyscrapers, luxury shopping malls and a myriad of other attractions.

However, Dubai is known as one of the hottest destinations during the summer months. In this blog post, we share with you some tips for visiting Dubai this summer.

How hot is Dubai in summer?

All deserts are generally extremely hot, especially in summer. You wouldn't expect Dubai to be an exception, would you? Although it rises with magnificent elegance and extreme beauty, this magnificent city is still what it is: a desert.

The truth is that Dubai, like all deserts, gets hot, especially during the summer, which runs from mid-May to October. August is the hottest month of the summer in Dubai.

In August, it can get so hot that you feel like you're halfway to boiling. Technically, this is not a false assumption, as the temperature can reach 50°C. That's one degree away from boiling water.

If you've packed your bags, ready to catch the next flight to Dubai this summer, don't be discouraged. The city is beautifully designed to welcome everyone, summer or winter, hot or cold. So, bravo! Don't unpack just yet. I've got some useful tips to get you through even the hottest month of summer.

Tips for coping with the heat in Dubai

Drink as much water as possible

The sun gets very hot in summer, and you'll want to avoid the dehydration that accompanies the sun's piercing effect. So how do you limit the dehydrating effect of the scorching heat? By drinking as much water as possible and as much as necessary.

Water helps keep you hydrated and energized as you roam the beautiful metropolis. What's more, drinking more water keeps fatigue at bay, as intense fatigue is linked to long-term dehydration.

In short, it's worth carrying a bottle of water with you when you travel around Dubai, especially in summer.

Stay in an air-conditioned space

It can get hot in the United Arab Emirates. Staying in a lodge not equipped to cope with the extreme heat can make your situation even worse.

The good news is that air-conditioned rooms are very popular in the city and even in neighboring cities such as Abu Dhabi. So, whatever your budget during your Dubai vacation, you're more likely to get a hotel that's prepared for the heat than one that isn't.

Fortunately, most hotels make visiting Dubai in summer less demanding. Many have pools, fully air-conditioned bars and luxurious spas to cope with the heat.

Wear light clothing!

This is one of the essential tips you need to consider when packing practical clothes for a summer visit to Dubai.

When choosing the clothes with which to travel to this beautiful city, you should stick to clothes that conform to the way the locals dress. These clothes should not stick to your body, and your choice of clothing should absorb less heat. Wearing a fine white fabric and other lightly colored fabrics will be a great help on a summer visit.

Sightseeing earlier in the day or much later

Even if you've put on layers of sunscreen before rushing out into the sun, staying out in the sun is not advisable for anyone. Staying indoors on sunny days will prevent you from getting sunburned or over-tanning. If you still have to go out, it's best to do so earlier in the morning or much later in the evening to see the city.

If your choice of adventure requires you to walk on your feet for a long distance, leaving on the morning of the adventure is the best choice. However, it's best to leave as early as possible. So, for a morning adventure trip, leaving at 7 a.m., before the sun rises, is the right time to start a journey so that you can at least reach your destination before the sun gets scorching at midday. Wear good shoes and carry a bottle of water.

For events and adventures that can take place at night, choosing the moment when the sun returns to its cave is the best option. What's more, visiting the parks at night is much more enjoyable.

Avoid heavy meals

Trying new types of food is perhaps at the top of our list of priorities when visiting somewhere new, or a place like Dubai for sheer pleasure. First, of course, it's relatively good to explore, but when your visit coincides with Dubai's famous summer, eating less will do you more good to beat the heat.

By eating smaller meals, your body will use less energy to digest the food you eat, and therefore produce less heat. A large meal has the opposite effect. This means your body will expend more energy digesting the food. Trying different types of food is tempting, I understand. However, a little of each food goes a long way to avoiding heat.

Sunscreen will come in handy

Applying a generous dose of sunscreen with a protection factor of over 30 to your face and other exposed areas will magically protect you from the dangerous effects of sunburn when you're having fun outdoors. Sunscreen that offers no sun protection is just as good as none at all.

Another idea would be to visit attractive indoor venues such as Ski Dubai, an indoor ski resort, the Dubai Aquarium and incredible shopping malls, a great solution to the city's heat. But why limit the fun when you can have more?

Dubai is built for you to explore its splendor at every turn. But know that the summer heat will only keep you from endless outdoor fun if you allow it.
