Here are a few snapshots taken by a Gulf Aviation pilot, Michael Stokes, who frequented the United Arab Emirates in the 50s and 60s. Although they remain family photos, they are nonetheless interesting for understanding the evolution from the moment black gold was discovered in the United Arab Emirates.
Some of these photos show us some of the places I visited on my guided tours, such as the Maqtaa Tower and Corniche in Abu Dhabi, Dubai Creek and Jebel Hafeet in Al Ain.
Dubai Creek in the 1950s.

Still the Dubai Creek, with a canal at its mouth (on the right of the picture) that facilitated dredging work in the 1950s.

Abu Dhabi
The next two were taken in Abu Dhabi at the Maqtaa Tower.

Below, the Abu Dhabi corniche.

And finally, a shot of Jebel Hafeet in Al Ain, the Emirates' oasis city.
